Why this runs in your browser, not on a server

A color you’re picking is often tied to something you haven’t published yet — a brand palette, a client’s design, a personal project. Altto skips uploading it anywhere — the picker, the conversions and the eyedropper all run entirely on your device.

Is there a limit on how many colors I can pick?
No — pick or convert as many colors as you like. There's no daily limit and no sign-up.
Which browsers support the screen eyedropper?
The “Pick from screen” button uses the browser's native EyeDropper API, currently supported in Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave). If your browser doesn't support it, the button stays hidden — you can still pick a color with the color wheel or by typing a HEX, RGB or HSL value directly.
How are the shades and tints generated?
Each swatch mixes your chosen color with white (for a tint) or black (for a shade) at a fixed ratio — a quick way to preview lighter and darker variants of the same base color. Click any swatch to switch to that color.
Can I type in a HEX, RGB or HSL value directly?
Yes — type into any of the three fields and the other two update automatically to match, so it also works as a HEX/RGB/HSL converter on its own.
Is my color sent anywhere?
No — nothing is ever uploaded. Every conversion and the screen eyedropper both run entirely inside this browser tab, on your device. There's no server involved at all, so nothing you pick is ever seen, copied or kept by Altto.
Do you keep a copy of the colors I pick?
