Your documents
Altto converts PDF files entirely within your browser. The file you choose is never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any server operated by us — there is no upload step in the product at all. When you close or reload the page, the file and the converted document are gone unless you saved a copy.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site does not need cookies to perform a conversion. It may use:
- Essential cookies — for example, remembering the choice you make in the cookie banner.
- Analytics cookies — to understand aggregate usage (for example, how many people visit), if enabled.
- Advertising cookies — this site displays ads through Adsterra, which may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised advertising based on your visits to this and other sites. You can control ad personalisation through the privacy choices linked in any ad unit.
Where required by law (for example, for visitors in the UK and EEA), non-essential cookies are only set after you accept them in the cookie banner. Choosing "Essential only" disables analytics and advertising cookies for your visit.
Third-party services
To perform conversions, the homepage loads two open-source code libraries from public content-delivery networks (for reading PDF files and for building Word documents). Loading these libraries may expose your IP address to that network in the ordinary way that any web request does, but no document content is sent to them — the libraries run locally in your browser.
Information we do collect
Like most websites, our hosting provider and any analytics or advertising service in use may automatically log standard technical information such as your approximate location (from IP address), browser type, device type, and pages visited. We don't combine this with anything that identifies you personally.
Your rights
If you're in the UK or EEA, you have rights under GDPR/UK GDPR relating to any personal data processed about you, including the right to object to advertising cookies (via the cookie banner or your browser settings) and to ask what data is held. Since this site doesn't collect document content or account data, there is generally very little to request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in the tools or services this site uses. The "last updated" date above will change when we do.
