What image quality do I get?
Standard quality renders each page at roughly 150 DPI, which is sharp on screen and fine for most uses. High quality renders at roughly 220 DPI, which looks better zoomed in or printed, at the cost of a larger file.
What happens if my PDF has more than one page?
Each page becomes its own JPG. If your PDF has one page you get a single image download; if it has several, all the images are packaged into a single zip file so you get one download instead of a pile of separate files.
Will this work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. Since this tool renders each page exactly as it looks, a scanned PDF converts just as well as one made from a word processor — you're essentially getting a screenshot of each page.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No — nothing is ever uploaded. Your PDF is opened and rendered to images entirely inside this browser tab. There's no server involved at all, so there's nothing for Altto to see, copy or keep.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not directly — a locked PDF needs to be unlocked first. Use our Unlock PDF tool to remove the password, then convert it here.
Can I go the other way and turn images into a PDF?
