Why convert JPG to PNG?

PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it the better choice when you need to keep editing an image, layer it over something else, or avoid further quality loss.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No — nothing is ever uploaded. Every image is decoded and re-encoded entirely inside this browser tab using the canvas built into your browser. There's no server involved at all, so there's nothing for Altto to see, copy or keep.

Will converting improve the quality of a JPG?

No — converting to PNG stops any further quality loss, but it can’t restore detail a JPG has already lost from its own compression.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes — add as many JPG files as you like. One image downloads directly; more than one comes back as a .zip.

Do you keep a copy of my images?
