Why this runs in your browser, not on a server

An HTML file can contain anything from a saved receipt to an internal report — not something you’d want sitting on a stranger’s server just to make a PDF. Altto skips that step completely — there’s no server for it to go to.

Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?
Yes — Altto draws real text into the PDF rather than a screenshot of the page, so you can select, search and copy it afterwards, and the file stays small.
Will external images and styles show up?
Images with a normal web address usually load, but stylesheets and fonts the page links to externally may not always be fetched — inline styles carry over reliably.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No — nothing is ever uploaded. The HTML is read and converted entirely inside this browser tab. There's no server involved at all, so there's nothing for Altto to see, copy or keep.
Is it safe to convert an HTML file from someone else?
Altto strips any <script> tags and inline event handlers before rendering, so scripts in the file can't run — but only convert files you trust the content of.
Can I convert a live web page by URL?
Not directly — save the page as an .html file first (most browsers offer “Save Page As”), then upload it here.
How does pagination work?
Content flows automatically onto as many A4 pages as it needs, based on the page's height.
Do you keep a copy of my file?
