Why this runs in your browser, not on a server

Photos are often the most personal thing on your phone — not something you’d want sitting on a stranger’s server just to change the file format. Altto skips that step completely — there’s no server for it to go to.

Why won't my iPhone photos open on my PC?

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, a format most Windows apps and older software don’t support. Converting to JPG makes them open everywhere.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No — nothing is ever uploaded. Every photo is decoded and converted entirely inside this browser tab. There's no server involved at all, so there's nothing for Altto to see, copy or keep.

Will I lose quality?

Choose Standard for everyday sharing (smaller files) or High for close-to-original quality (larger files) — either way, even Standard uses a high JPG quality setting.

Can I convert Live Photos or bursts?

Standard HEIC photos convert reliably. Some Live Photo and burst variants aren't supported yet — if one fails, try exporting it as a regular photo from your iPhone first.

Can I convert several photos at once?

Yes — add as many HEIC files as you like. One photo downloads directly; more than one comes back as a .zip.

Do you keep a copy of my photos?

No. There's no upload, so there's nothing on our side to keep. See the Privacy Policy for details.
